I began playing the guitar at the age of fourteen. I have taken some lessons with various teachers over the years, but I am for the most part self taught. I must admit though, that my greatest advancements have come with the advent of the internet.
My first band experience came at the age of 16, when our drummer and I formed a band we called "The Spyders" (a state of the art band name for the mid-sixties) Ron and I attended the same school in Wilton,NH, right from the first grade.I recall we were best known for being one of the first local bands to perform "Wipeout". We never did reach the point of taking money to play.
I then took a hiatus from music to pursue other interests, which I will not get into here.
Soon I realized that I just had to play and began jamming with several other musicians, and various bands.
My next venture into a band was after I was finished with school, and nvolved a couple of other schoolmates. We played at several clubs in the tri-state area of NH,VT,and Mass. I think there may have been some trickery involved in the"Hat Pull", for the band name. We ended up being known as "Not From Canada".
The next adventure began a few years later when I ran into Henry again. We went out for a drink, and as the bartender was complaining about his band cancelling, Henry told him that we had a band, and booked us for the weekend. Now we had to find a Bass player and drummer. We did find them and formed The george Band. We ended up playing regular for a year or so. We intoduced each member of the band as George. This band was really a lot of fun.(As far as I can Remember. LOL).
Shortly after the demise of that band I met Doug Rowland in a factory atmosphere. After learning that he was a guitar player, we got together with the drummer of Not From Canada, and a bass player, who we lost to a tragic accident. (RIP Dave).
I once again took a break from playing, until I was contacted by Doug, who had carried on with the drummer, a new bass player, guitar, and female vocalist. The guitar player was leaving, and I was offered the opening. As a band we again played the tri-state venues, calling ourselves "Loaded Dice"
My next brilliant move was to give up playing altogether, and go into business as a painting contractor. Well 20 years later I slapped myself up side the head, and concluded that I could no longer go on without the music in my life.
I contacted Doug, who was involved with a couple other projects at the time, now playing bass. Then the call I had been waiting for finally came. The band Doug was with was dissolving, and he was open to a new venture.
We got together with the drummer from that band, did some jamming, and contacted a vocalist, who worked with us a few weeks, but it just did not click. Then Doug invited Kris Kleine ,our keyboardist, to sit in.Now we were starting to get somewhere. Soon however the drummer, who had another project on the line as well, decided to take that avenue. We tried another drummer for a while, but found personality clashes too much to deal with. I then made a phone call out of the blue, and found that my old friend Ron,was not only living in the area, but was available, and game for another foray into music.
And so here we are. "CATEGORY 4"
